Midwinter Sparkle & Hot off the Press

bite of lunch

25th July – 20th August 2015

The sun shining on the Torlesse Range isn’t the only thing sparkling in Oxford at the moment. “Midwinter Sparkle” is the one of two exhibitions that has just opened at Arts in Oxford gallery. Over 150 pieces of jewellery are on display, created by 12 members of The Silversmiths Guild of Canterbury. As an added bonus visitors can visit on weekends (between 10am and 3pm) and “Have a go” at making a pair of sterling silver earrings for only $25. No booking is required and there are three designs to choose from. Materials and tools are supplied and there is a Guild member on hand to guide them through the process as they learn how to texture, shape and finish the metal and how to make ear wires.

Running alongside the Silversmiths’ Exhibition is “Hot off the Press”, a printmaking show featuring works by Ruth Stanton McLeod, Celia Wilson, Sue Alexander, Heather Maxwell & Gaby Reade. Whilst these five artists utilise a wide variety of printmaking techniques, and each has their own distinct style, their works share in common a delicate precision and subtle use of colour that resonates with the jewellery on display.

Both exhibitions run until Thursday 20th August. Arts in Oxford is open 10am – 4pm every day except Monday.
