After a 40-year working career in advertising design, I have made the transition to Fine Art – working primarily in the watercolour medium. I endeavour to bring a well-crafted, considered approach to my watercolours which created in a colourful and traditional format I label “casual realism”. My art is displayed and sold in over 15 galleries New Zealand wide, and I also tutor both watercolour painting and life drawing in various South Island locations.
Among awards won over the years are : Highly Commended in the Kerikeri Art Society’s Annual Exhibition; a Merit Award in the Annual
Marlborough Peter’s Doig Art Awards and a Finalist in the Australian Artist magazine’s Art Prize Challenge for Seascapes, Rivers and Lakes. I have also had four feature articles on my art published in the Australian Artist magazine.
Now based in Cheviot,North Caterbury, I have taken a detour in my art to painting on site rather than mainly in the studio. I find that this brings a
new excitement, satisfaction and stimulus and it results in my watercolours being art of a more vivid, impressionistic and spontaneous nature.
