Ruth Stanton McLeod
Ruth is a multi-media artist based in North Canterbury. She has formal training in both horticulture and ceramics. In 2000 she graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Art, majoring in Printmaking, from the Dunedin School of Fine Art.
Ruth’s approach to her work is to create new and inventive methods to traditional art practices. Common threads that influence her work are her connection to the earth through the exploration of mediums and their tactile responses. Geology, surface identity, historical reflection and a sense of spirituality are all essential elements in her art practice.
Her most recent works are a response to the human psyche and the environment we live in. This is illustrated by the use of colour, repetition, balance and symmetry. Should any of these components be altered, a discord is created.
