Sue Currie

“To experience the place and capture the moment is the first step in creating a good painting.”

A Christchurch born artist who trained as a graphic designer, Sue has been painting since 1975. Passionate about the New Zealand landscape, after several years working overseas she returned to her homeland and the following year started painting full time.

The way in which Sue captures the light in her paintings and the use of colour, signifies her individual style. Often included is accurate rendering of detail. The paint is applied liberally in a series of layers in both oils and acrylics. In her watercolours, colour is applied with a series of glazes and the translucent paints produce the clear crisp work that Sue is recognised for.

She has travelled and painted extensively in New Zealand as well as Europe, Southern Britain, Australia, Fiji, Mexico China and Asia. She exhibits regularly in New Zealand and is the recipient of numerous awards. Her paintings are in private collections in Japan, USA, France, UK, Germany, Switzerland, Australia and New Zealand.
